Hilit Dahan is an occupational therapist with over 20 years of experience working with students on the Autism Spectrum of varying ages and abilities through the public school system and private practice. She is thrilled to be bringing this innovative new communication method to the US and South Florida!
About the Method
The A.T.A. Method focuses on developing conversational reading and writing skills through commonplace reading and writing acquisition methodology. It is recommended for non-verbal/partially verbal individuals with moderate to low-functioning autism 6 years and older who have an understanding of reading and writing essentials.
How does it work?
During the lessons, the student’s pre-existing vocabulary is revealed and expanded through typing on the iPad. This process allows the student to develop conversational communication with their social environment and convey their thoughts in a clearer way.
Benefits of using an iPad
The A.T.A Method uses an iPad, a common and preferred device amongst the autistic population, which encourages and motivates participants in the learning process. Because of the iPad’s ease of use and transport, students can communicate freely wherever and whenever!
Family as an essential part of the process
Lessons are always done in the presence and with the cooperation of a family member. This allows us to create a continuation of learning and typing communication with the student’s social environment without the typing instructor’s presence.

This is how Yuval Deutsch, a 13-year-old girl with moderately low functioning autism from Shoham, Israel, describes the complexity of her life. An interview that’s impossible to remain apathetic to.

“The events that happened throughout [Israel] this past year have been massive triggers that add to the distress and worries of many.” Tal Asher, a 32-year-old woman with autism who suffers from PTSD, relays through typing the coping experiences that many like her are feeling right now.

The words that Shneur Landau types on his iPad screen manage to open a window into his inner world and reveal a stream of thoughts, emotions, and sharp understanding beneath the veil of his autism. The A.T.A Method has already helped dozens of autistic people & their families communicate openly & freely.
